Shield Door Fitting Measurement

Measuring the shields or the shield door fittings is not really difficult. Indoor door handles are available in two variants. Door handles on rosette and door handles on shield . With rosette door handles, the door handle is mounted on a small round or square plate. The plate for the lock or toilet closure is separate from the door handle.

With a door handle on shield, the door handle is mounted on a (often) steel plate. The hole for the key or the closure for a toilet lock are also mounted on the same plate.

If you buy a set with a rosette, the dimensions are not important. The rosette can be placed at any desired distance from the knob or handle.

The type of lock

First of all, it is important to find out which type of size you have. The PC size, profile cylinder, is the most common. A keyboard key is a lock that uses an 'old-fashioned' key, where the lock hole has the shape of the key.

Another type of shield is the blind shield. This shield has no keyhole and therefore has no further dimensions. These are used when you do not need to be able to lock a door.

Calculate the slot recess/center-to-center size

To calculate the correct dimensions, always calculate the center-to-center size. This means that you always calculate the distance from the crank hole to the lock hole. The handle hole is the part into which the handle falls, the lock hole or keyhole is the hole at the bottom of the shield through which the key passes.
