Multi-point lock

A multi-point lock can be operated in two ways. If this is cylinder operated, the door opens using the key in the cylinder. This type is also called multi-point locking key-operated, because you operate the latch by turning the key in the lock. This method of opening is used with most front door locks, because they have a fixed front door knob.

If you operate your exterior door on both sides with a door handle or rotary knob, you can purchase a handle-operated multi-point lock instead of a cylinder-operated multi-point lock. The multi-point lock responds when you turn the door handle. This type of multi-point lock can be used for, for example, a back door.
